The Ultimate Tea Te Brewing Guide:

White, Green, Black and Milk Tea

At Tea Te, we believe that brewing tea is an intentional act of slowing down—a moment to pause, breathe, and savor life’s simple pleasures. To help you get the absolute best flavor, aroma, and natural benefits from your leaves, here is our master guide to brewing White Tea, Green Tea, Black Tea, and classic Milk Tea.

1. Original Ooty White Tea (The Delicate Pause)

White tea consists of young, tender buds and leaves. Because it is minimally processed, it requires gentle handling to bring out its light floral sweetness without scalding the leaves.

  • Ideal Ratio: 1 to 2 teaspoons (approx. 2g) per cup (200 ml)

  • Water Temperature: 75°C – 80°C (167°F – 175°F) (Let boiled water rest for 3–4 minutes before pouring)

  • Steeping Time: 4 to 5 minutes

Steps:

  1. Warm your teapot or cup by rinsing it with a little hot water, then discard the water.

  2. Place 2 teaspoons of Tea Te White Tea leaves into your cup or strainer.

  3. Pour slightly cooled, hot water over the leaves.

  4. Let it steep for 4–5 minutes to allow the subtle honey and floral notes to fully emerge.

  5. Strain and enjoy pure. (Note: Leaves can be re-steeped up to 3 times!)

2. Original Ooty Green Tea (The Refreshing Reset)

Rich in antioxidants and clean, vegetal notes, our Nilgiris Green Tea is smooth and naturally sweet—provided you avoid boiling water, which can cause bitterness.

  • Ideal Ratio: 1 teaspoon (approx. 2g) per cup (200 ml)

  • Water Temperature: 80°C – 85°C (175°F – 185°F) (Let boiled water rest for 1–2 minutes)

  • Steeping Time: 2 to 3 minutes

Steps:

  1. Add 1 teaspoon of Tea Te Green Tea leaves to your mug or infuser.

  2. Pour hot (not boiling) water directly over the leaves.

  3. Cover and steep for 2 to 3 minutes max.

  4. Strain immediately to stop the infusion.

  5. Optional: Add a light drizzle of raw honey or a squeeze of fresh lemon for an invigorating boost.

3. Classic Ooty Black Tea (The Robust Reinvigorator)

Bold, deeply aromatic, and full-bodied, our high-altitude Black Tea thrives with fully boiled water to extract its rich flavor and bright amber color.

  • Ideal Ratio: 1 teaspoon (approx. 2.5g) per cup (200 ml)

  • Water Temperature: 95°C – 100°C (203°F – 212°F) (Freshly boiled water)

  • Steeping Time: 3 to 5 minutes

Steps:

  1. Bring fresh, filtered water to a rolling boil.

  2. Place 1 teaspoon of Tea Te Black Tea leaves into your teapot.

  3. Pour boiling water over the leaves and cover with a lid to trap the aromatic essential oils.

  4. Steep for 3 minutes for a lighter cup, or up to 5 minutes for a stronger, bolder infusion.

  5. Strain into your favorite cup and enjoy black, or with a slice of fresh orange or lemon.

4. Authentic Nilgiris Milk Tea / Chai (The Comforting Classic)

When you need warmth, rich flavor, and total comfort, a simmered stove-top milk tea using our bold black tea leaves hits the spot.

  • Ideal Ratio: 1.5 to 2 teaspoons of Black Tea leaves per cup

  • Liquid Ratio: 1/2 cup water + 1/2 cup whole milk (or oat/milk alternative)

  • Prep Time: 5–7 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup (100 ml) fresh water

  • 1/2 cup (100 ml) milk

  • 1.5 – 2 tsp Tea Te Black Tea leaves

  • Unrefined sugar, jaggery, or honey to taste

  • Optional crushed spices: 1 cardamom pod, a small piece of fresh ginger, or a pinch of cinnamon.

Steps:

  1. In a small saucepan, bring 1/2 cup of water (and crushed spices, if using) to a gentle boil over medium heat.

  2. Add 2 teaspoons of Tea Te Black Tea leaves and let it simmer for 2 minutes until the liquid turns dark reddish-brown.

  3. Pour in 1/2 cup of milk and bring the mixture to a slow boil.

  4. Once the milk rises, lower the heat and let it simmer gently for another 1–2 minutes to allow the flavors to combine.

  5. Add your preferred sweetener, stir well, and strain directly into your mug. Serve piping hot!

Tea Te Pro Brewing Tips:

  • Water Quality Matters: Always use fresh, filtered water. Impurities in tap water can mask delicate floral and green tea notes.

  • Don't Rush the Steeping: Steeping times aren't just suggestions—they are key to balancing delicate aromatics against natural tannins.

  • Store Right: Keep your Tea Te glass jars tightly sealed in a cool, dry place to retain leaf freshness and rich aroma
